Event Details

AcroYoga Intensive: 3 workshops with Erica Montes at triyoga Soho.
5th & 6th July 2019

FRIDAY 5TH JULY, 7.30-9.30pm:
☆ ACROYOGA TASTER CLASS
Do you want to know what AcroYoga is all about? This taster class is the perfect introduction to the practice – and an opportunity to take your first flight!

What can I expect?
This workshop will get you off your mat and in the air trying things you never knew were possible! Learn how to base, fly and spot each other in acrobatic flying. In each of these roles you’ll learn a new skill and are presented with a different perspective. You do not need to be an acrobat to do AcroYoga – the practice is designed to be accessible to all levels of ability. By cultivating skilful partnership, AcroYoga provides a vehicle to explore positive and supportive relationships with an emphasis on honest and compassionate communication.

Who is this for?
Open to all levels. No partner necessary.

SATURDAY 6TH JULY, 10am-1pm:
☆ ACROYOGA PARTNER INVERSIONS
Uncover your upside-down potential. As we build strength by using acrobatic and gymnastics training techniques, we can expand the vision of our personal power. Practicing inversions and spotting offers us the chance to learn to coach each other, building trust and efficient body mechanics.

What can I expect?
Be prepared to invert on the floor and on a partner. We’ll start by warming up and strengthening our bodies so we can connect to the shapes needed when we’re flying. We’ll learn the basics of inversions on the floor and have lots of fun when we move it off the ground to hand and shoulder stands on different body parts. We’ll find new ways of playing with balance and unusual points of contact.

Who is this for?
Anyone who would like to play with inversions and partner work. Ability to handstand against the wall is recommended. No partner needed.

SATURDAY 6TH JULY, 2.30-5.30pm:
☆ ACROYOGA FLYING FLOWS
The beautiful postures of AcroYoga come alive when we learn the transitions that link them together and create a seamless flow of movement. This workshop will introduce physical principles used for flying which create lightness in the body of the flyer and strength and stability for the base.

What can I expect?
We will explore some simple yet graceful flows to put into practice everything we learn.

Who is this for?
Previous flying or basing experience recommended. Variations will be offered accordingly. No partner necessary.

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Erica Montes (SYT) first worked with the body through performance art, acrobatics and theatre. As a performer she became enamoured with going to yoga classes where she found the connection between her physically intense body work in the theatre and eastern practices that promotes mindfulness through physical movement as a vehicle to spirituality. Erica completed a 500 Hour Yoga certification with Edward Clark’s much celebrated Tripsichore Yoga, and Acro Yoga level 1 and 2 with founders Jason Nemer & Jenny Sauer Klein. Erica has been teaching internationally since 2008 and is one of the most highly trained and experienced AcroYoga teachers in the world. She is also a mentor for other teachers. Erica is a qualified Thai massage therapist and enjoys incorporating the knowledge of this ancient healing art into her teachings.
