Acro Warrior Teacher Training Fall Edition – Module 1

Event Details

We are super excited to bring the Acro Warrior Teacher Training back to Warrior Bridge this fall in a new modular format. Over the course of four 4-day immersions spread out over 3 months we will break down, practice, and refine skills from across the spectrum of the acro practice. Each immersion will consist of skill refinement, conditioning, practice teaching, lectures and group discussions to cultivate our voices as Acro teachers. In our training we will offer tools for intelligent warm ups, clear explanations and well-thought-out progressions as well as an emphasis on community building and inclusivity. Throughout training we will also spend significant time refining and developing our personal movement practices through handstand and flexibility training, acrobatic movement and conditioning, as well as other movement arts. The immersions can be attended as stand-alone immersions to develop your personal practice and understanding of skill sets or as part of a complete program to receive certification as an acro teacher. For those enrolled in the full training, in addition to the work during training immersions, trainees will complete additional work both in and out of the studio in the time between immersions where they are guided in developing their voices as teachers and community leaders.

Training will be co-led by Sean Langhaus & Emily Lesinski with additional sessions led by Mendel Romanenko, Bassam Kubba, Laura Lebron and graduates of past Acro Warrior Teacher Trainings.

September 28- oct 1

Foundations of Flight: Any structure is only as strong as it’s foundation. In this immersion we explore the foundations of the Acro practice; key concepts for bases, flyers, spotters and teachers will be explored and drilled as we work with L-basing acro, handstands, standing acrobatics and therapeutic acro practices. Lecture topics will include “Anatomy of Acrobatics”, “Self-Care and Prehab” and “Spotting for Safety & Success”.

October 19-22

The Art of Balance

Acro is a practice that can be accessible to most (if not all) bodies, but balance can be tricky . It can take work to find the point where everything stays in alignment and sometimes we need to fight to keep it. In this immersion we explore balance from a variety of angles: balance in our acro skills, balance between giving and receiving, between training and play, as well as between specializing and generalizing. Skill sets explored will include Hand-to-Hand, Counterbalances and creative L-basing.

November 23-26

Dynamic Skills & Transitions

Movement is what gets us places, stillness is what let us appreciate where we have arrived. In this immersion we look to work on and refine both: being impeccable in our positioning to set us up for ease, and then dynamically moving and flowing. Skill sets explored and refined will include tempo popping, Icarian, whips, standing & L-basing flows.

December 14-17

The Advanced One

This immersion will provide tools for working on peak skills and goals. Whether your goal is inlocate to hand-to-hand, Icarian front tucks or something more like sharing your acro with any level of practitioner there will be tools in this immersion to get you where you’re going. Becoming an advanced acrobat takes more than just endless hours of acro practice (though of course that’s a part of it); you’ll be asked to transition between the role of coach, student and observer. There will be times that you will need to dig into your bank of experience and knowledge and times that you need to look outside of yourself. Sometimes it will be technical cues and progressions that get us there, and sometimes it will be work on our solo movement skills that will make the difference. These sessions will give you tools to guide your own training as well as share your skills as a coach.
