Baton Rouge Weekend Acro Intensive

Event Details

AirSeekers is excited to bring you Acro Revolution teachers Jacob and Debbie for a 2 day, 12 hour intensive in Baton Rouge, Louisiana! This will be for the all around acrobat. You will learn washing machines, pops/Icarian, whips, and Dance lifts.

Jacob Brown started his movement training with gymnastics when he was eight years old. Much later a friend introduced him to acro and has caused his life to change forever. It started in the summer of 2010. He and friends found the few acro videos on YouTube at the time and endeavored to work them out. It was slow at first, with each new move they learned it became easier to unlock new skills. In 2014, Josh and Lizzy announced the first Acro Revolution Teacher training, which Jacob attended.

In 2013 Debbie and Jacob started to work together regularly. Their partnership flourished because of their strong work ethic and common background in gymnastics. Debbie loved the connection and flow she could find with a partner. She can forget about the whole world while flowing through complex acrobatic movements. Even the mistakes are fun because they end in laughing piles of humans. As frequently happens when people work closely for an extended period, this partnership grew into a relationship. Debbie got her Revolution certification in 2017.

Jacob and Debbie have developed a love of teaching acro. It started locally, then came teaching tours up and down the west coast, then to Europe, South America, and now to Baton Rouge.

Not only do you save money by going to the whole workshop, but this also creates a more cohesive group experience, when most people go to every session. You also save money by paying in advance. This helps the teachers because when we know who is coming in advance we can plan a better workshop for you. It is okay too if you get individual sessions.

SESSION 1 || Washing Machines
Acrobats underestimate the importance of washing machines. After all, Jacob and Debbie fell in love with acro and with each other while doing them. Through the study of these machines you build up a movement vocabulary which transfers into other areas of acro. Experienced l-basers can flow seamlessly from one pose to the next in complex acrobatic arrangements. They can create original works of acro art by communicating only through touch. In this session we will focus on machines which emphasize grace and beauty: symmetrical machines made by Jacob and Debbie.
DAY: Saturday
TIME: 2:00 pm-5:00 pm
PREREQUISITES: Must be comfortable with Ninja Stars, Barrel Rolls, and High Barrel Rolls. Here is a video explaining how to do all three.

SESSION 2 || Whips
Whips are a very exciting type of L-Base. Flyers whip through the legs of the base very quickly. This takes great skill from base, flyer, and spotter. Jacob and Debbie will ensure that you are challenged in a safe environment.
DAY: Saturday
TIME: 6:30 pm-9:30 pm
PREREQUISITES: Must be comfortable with Tarzans. Tarzans are your most basic whip and everything else will be build upon this move. Debbie and Jacob made a Tarzan video tutorial. You can work on it before they arrive. Tarzan Tutorial:
Must also be comfortable with…
Throne Tosses
Bird Tosses

SESSION 3 || Pops/Icarian
DESCRIPTION: Icarian is named after Icarus from the greek myth of Daedalus and Icarus. Icarus is the one who flew too close to the sun. Don’t worry. We will use spotters! Icarian is full release, meaning it is the most exciting type of acro by far. Debbie and Jacob have been doing a lot more icarian lately. They have been meeting every weekend to train for an icarian performance at the New Years Acro Love. Along the way Jacob and Debbie have learned effective ways to teach icarian to new students.
DAY: Sunday
TIME: 2:00 pm-5:00 pm
Throne Tosses
Front Tosses
Bird Throne Pops

SESSION 4 || Dance Lifts
DESCRIPTION: Jacob and Debbie have poured through the internet and learned from many teachers to find all the best dance lifts! This is an entirely different kind of acro. In standing acro there are a lot of static holds. The flyer moves up and down in ways similar to how a weightlifter does a power clean. Dance lifts are different because they use momentum to lift the flyer up and down in more graceful movement, similar to ballet. In this class you will first practice individual dance lifts and later put them together into a flow.
DAY: Sunday
TIME: 6:30 pm-9:30 pm
Partner Cartwheels

If you want to get to know Jacob and Debbie better you should look at our website. We have dozens of video examples of every kind of acro. We have video tutorials too.
